Greenman’s picks:

1. Crazy Bald Heads – First Born

On Tick 1998, Reissue Text 2013

Originally released in ’98 this record was way ahead of its time and was relatively underground until Four Tet remixed it for their Fabriclive release in 2011. First Born’s unique sound paved the way for dark garage to emerge from the majorly house influenced 2-step genre with likes of producers such as Zeb Bias, El-B, Benny Ill and later Burial. Deep, dubby, and unique: you could be forgiven for thinking this record was from the future.

2. Digital Mystikz – Anti War Dub ft. Spen G

DMZ 2006

http://youtu.be/3pBCA9mUciU

I have to credit this as the first release that inspired me to start buying and playing music. I first heard it on’that’ Mary Anne Hobbs: Dubstep Wars show on Radio One back in ’06, this was the first time Dubstep had been aired on national radio and will go down in history as the show that changed everything.

Every time I think of this record I still get shivers reminiscent of a genre that once was the biggest thing to me. Meditate on bass weight.

3. Kahn & Neek – Percy

Bandulu 2012

Bristol’s Kahn is one of the best DJ/Producers to flourish from the bass scene in recent years. I had been following his solo works in deep bass music, and the heavyweight dubbers Gorgon Sound (with Neek) but when they dropped this record, they showed the grime world there was still competition out there. Kahn plays strictly vinyl, a policy that is reflected in this vinyl only release of which there are only 500 copies and no digital release. The perfect fusion of heavy Grime and Dubplate culture.

Milktray’s picks:

1. La Chat – Still Gettin’ My Clit Licked.

The instrumental for this is really good, mixing classic pitched up samples with a memphis kinda twist. La Chat obviously knows what she’s after which is also cool and basically i just like dead rude songs.

2. IronSoul – Dance With Me 2

This song makes you feel great. Chops are on point, and you can dance or romance to it, or both. I wish i made it tbh.

3. Youngstar – 808

Youngstar is an OG, people still try emulate his sound to this day. I’m excited to play tracks like this on Subclub system and jump about like a dafty.

Inkke’s picks:

1. More Fire Crew & Dizzee – Still The Same

I like how strange and experimental the production from dizzee is on this one, crazy shit but bangs hard.

2. Dat Oven – Icy Lake (Original Arena Mix)

Big club track, again with a weird twist to it. originally released in ’98 and recently re-released by night slugs and fade to mind.

3. Vesper Town – Tuff Luv

All about them bell melodies and jittery vocal cuts.
