Rebecca Vasmant Chats Silicone Soul and All That Jazz

Jazz is really about the human experience. It’s about the ability of human beings to take the worst of circumstances and struggles and turn it into something creative and constructive. That’s something that’s built into the fiber of every human being. And I think that’s why people can respond to it. They feel the freedom in it. And the attributes of jazz are also admirable. It’s about dialogue. It’s about sharing. And teamwork. It’s in the moment, and its nonjudgmental, at its best.” Herbie Hancock.

We are delighted this month to welcome Glasgow’s own Craig Morrison (Silicone Soul) to take us on a journey through his record collection. We want to allow DJ’s, perhaps better known for their talents within electronic music, to come and play records they might not always get the chance to play, with no boundaries or judgement, being absolutely free to play anything that they feel they want to share.

Having spent some time with Craig, inviting him to play Modal made absolute sense. The records in the back room of his house are varied and wonderful, and having heard him play, we are excited to hear some hidden gems from the depths of his collection.

Music really is a privilege, and we are delighted to be able to share some special bits from our collections with you. This promo mix recorded by Craig and our resident Rebecca Vasmant especially for Modal! should give you some idea of what to expect this Thursday.

We have Glasgow’s connoisseur and an avid part of the city’s Jazz scene, Mark Robb playing
