One of Deutschland’s finest disc jockeys, Marcus Worgull and his music have been a firm favourite of Subculture sets for many years. Keeping his house deep and down, the Innervisions insider returns to the Sub Club this Saturday. We managed to pin him down and as we swayed away from normal chat, we found out some interesting facts, for instance his passion for football, love of Reggae, and his talents as a childhood piano player…

With his disco/funk/jazz influences, he focuses on the deeper side of house music. By owning and running Groove Attack, the most famous music store in Germany, Marcus sure knows what music his people want to hear.
1. What is your favourite way to spend a Saturday?
In fact, it still is Djing! Although it means very often to be in a train, on a plane or in a car to end up in one specific city, which most of the times you only get to know through the window of a hotel room and some window of a car.
But – the perfect way is to end up on time in the hotel room to watch the the german Bundesliga games online. Then dinner, then playing. ;-)
2. Someone asks you to design a club ,where would it be, and who would play your opening night?
So, if it was to happen, it would happen in Cologne, it would be outside of the city centre, so no neighbours will disturb us with their affliction. It would be close to the river Rhein, that divides our city. It would have an out view on this river, so the light comes in when the sun goes up. System wise it would be just powerful, subclub-style if possible. Design wise it would be very, very simple, so no distraction from the music. And – only good drinks. Opening night would be Laurent Garnier.
3. Can or Tangerine Dream?
Can. I just finished an album together with Danilo Plessow as “Vermont“ [Marcus’s latest collaboration project with Motor City Drum Ensemble.] It will be out on Kompakt in March and for this, we even recorded some tracks together with Jaki Liebezeit, the drummer of Can. But, Tangerine Dream is good too. Just listened to a reissue by Tangerine Dream member Günter Schickert, called “Kinder in der Wildnis”. Good stuff !
4. If you had one day in your life to live over again, which would you choose and why?
I think I don’t have an answer to this. I prefer to look out for the next day. Maybe the birthday of my son Ole. But – would this mean that it would be twins then? Mmhh… I don’t know.
5. Last movie you saw that blew you away?
Mad Men, Season 6.
6. Three music producers who have inspired your own productions? Can you give us a tune from each one?
Scientist:
Johnny Osbourne:
Frank Wiedemann:

In fact, only the latter one really influenced my own production by helping and advising, the other ones just stand for my love for Reggae and Dub music, which has been the initial hint for me that i knew, that i really love music. Like…REALLY!
7. What sort of music did your parents listen to when you were growing up?
No music at home :-/ except my sister playing violin and me playing the piano. I was the first one who organised a tape recorder to listen to Michael Jackson at home. It was quickly replaced by a turntable.
8. Olympics or World Cup?
Pffttt…you should know that ;-)
9. First 12″ you bought?
First record was a 7″ of AC/DC: “Highway to Hell”.
First 12″ was Clint Eastwood & General Saint “Stop that train”
Here is a very rare mix from Marcus which he recorded for Innervisions back in Spring 2012…
£10 Adv. tickets to catch him alongside Harri & Domenic at Subculture are available here and both online and in store from Tickets Scotland.
