Animal Farm return to The Sub Club tonight bringing two of the UK’s heaviest Techno hitters Regis & Shifted in tow. For this piece, AF’s Quail picks out a few of his favourites from Regis’ back catalogue. Some originals, remixes and collaborations feature, all of which are marked with the distinct, industrial ‘Birmingham’ sound that Regis was so influential in developing.
Shifted has also contributed his current top ten tracks, highlighting new material from Vatican Shadow, Tropic Of Cancer, Morphosis, Planetary Assault Systems and his own Avian label.

Taken from his first LP back in ’96 this is pure unadulterated Regis. Raw, hypnotic, industrial and hard as nails, this is machine music set at the most hectic pace.

Purely because this was the first Regis/Downwards record I ever bought. Found myself staring down the barrel of a gun with this one.

Regis remixes Downwards co-owner Peter Sutton aka Female….dark, brooding broken beats in the minimalistic Sandwell Style.
British Murder Boys – Burn Your Way In [DOWNWARDS]
A furious onslaught from Surgeon & Regis here. Melodic in parts but saturated in distortion leading to a blistering output. Probably one of the hardest kick drums I’ve heard!

The original of this gets played pretty much every time at Animal Farm however the collaborative efforts of Regis & Function create a subtle, stripped backed remix which harks to the peak of their Sandwell District days.
