The Jamaica Street faithful loved Christmas a lot.
But the Grinch who was too cool for such things did NOT!
The Grinch hated Christmas, the whole festive season
Now, please don’t ask why, no-one quite knows the reason
It could be his ears weren’t screwed in just right
Or it could be his jeans were too skinny and tight
But we think that the most likely reason of all
Was his musical soul was two sizes too small…
Whatever the source of such grave negativities
He strutted around with disdain for festivities
He stared at the Sub with a sour Grinchy frown
Shouting “This is the worst freakin’ party in town!”
But he knew that deep down in the basement below
There were those getting ready to Let Your Elf Go!
And as much as he tried, and no matter how bold
His words found him quickly left out in the cold
For the clubbers of Glasgow were digging this scene

The club was soon packed with a mad elven hoard
So the Grinch, stuck outside, put his hand to his ear
He strained, very hard, for some bad tracks to hear
And he did hear a sound rising over the snow
It started in low. Then it started to grow
But the sound wasn’t sad! Why, this sound sounded merry!
It couldn’t be so! But it WAS merry! VERY!
He charged down to the dancefloor! The Grinch popped his eyes!
Then he shook! What he saw was a shocking surprise!
Every Who’s Who in Glasgow, the tall and the small,
Was dancing! With no Grinch pretention at all!
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before!
“Christmas spirit’s nae bought fae a shop or a store.”
“Mebbes Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”
And what happened then? Well…in Glasgow they say,
That the Grinch’s musical soul grew three sizes that day!
And the minute he found that those mad elves were right
He Let His Elf Go for the rest of the night!
