Grampian Mountains Artwork Design: A Personal Selection

In the first in our series of behind the scenes blog posts on our Tumblr we have asked Craig from Grampian Mountains, one of our favourite graphic designers, to shed some light on his recent work for Sub Club. Responsible for design and art direction for a wealth of music, arts and culture related projects across the land, Craig has been working on various projects with Sub Club since 2010. Below is a hand picked selection of his more recent work for us to give you an idea of the diversity and distinction of his craft.

Sub Club 25th Anniversary

A choice of imagery arranged in a way that – I hope – carefully considers space and movement, freezing a moment in time as if it were a still from a film.

Sensu

New identity for the long-standing club-night and soon-to-be record label. This should also lend itself quite nicely to being animated some day.

Hyperdub

A moiré pattern experiment designed to compliment the label’s already very distinct visual language and diverse catalogue of music.

Phantasy Sound

This was just a good excuse to create a surreal fantasy landscape,  capturing a sort of fleeting moment where everything aligns.

20 kHz

I’ve been on both sides of the booth in Sub Club and it’s a frightening thing sometimes, having all that power and volume at your fingertips. This waveform pattern can be found laser cut into the walls of the club’s interior and once upon a time it even immaculately surrounded the booth although I believe it was ripped off in amongst the mayhem of one particular night. Anyhow, this is simply a reinterpretation of those fabled patterns and tip of the hat to a very unique place.
