Sensu: Cesco’s South American Adventure

This Friday the Sensu residents, Barry Price, Junior, Iggie, Alan Belshaw & Cesco Ferri come together once again to provide a tip top soundtrack to your evening. This event will witness the return of Sensu’s prodigal son Cesco who has been on a southern hemisphere sabbatical. This event is the first time in almost two years that all five Sensu residents will be playing together for the full four hours. End of the month, Summer time special, £5 entry all night long!

Here is what Cesco had to say about his adventure…”So after a year and a bit of planning and saving and 4 months actually travelling, my girlfriend and I have just returned to Scottish shores. We managed to see and do quite a bit on our way around South America. South of Brazil, a bit of Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia & a bit of Peru to top it off. It’s been the best 4 months of our lives and in truth we’re a bit gutted to be home, nothing a night at the Sub Club with a few fine gents by my side won’t cure.. “

Without even a hint of the green eyed monster, the rest of the Sensu crew are intrigued and fascinated by his tour tales from this trip of a lifetime. Ahead of Friday we wanted to share this with you. So once back on home soil Cesco pulled together some selected highlights of his travels with a few cracking images and fitting tracks from his top five locations. We hope you enjoy checking them out (but not too much, as it may encourage itchy feet and send you on your way & we don’t want that! We would miss you all too much…)

Ihla Grande, Brazil

Ihla Grande

This is maybe my favourite place we visited along the way. It’s a little island off the coast of Rio state. There’s no cars, no roads and no banks on the Island, just miles and miles of deserted beaches, blue seas, great jungle walks and bars selling the best Caipirinhas in the world.

If this place had a sound track it’d be Brian Eno – Deep Blue Day. It totally sums up the pace of life on this little island paradise…

Iguazu Falls, Brazil/Argentina

Iguazu Falls2

I’d seen loads of pictures of Iguazu before we set off. It’s one of the places on our travels that I looked forward to the most and it didn’t disappoint. No pictures can even come close to the experience of walking around the falls..

Rydims – Nice and Slow – this one reminded me of the long bus journey from Sao Paulo to Iguazu (about 20 hours). I woke up to this playing on my iPod in the middle of the night and it totally stuck in my head..

Rio De Janeiro

Rio

We started our trip in Rio arriving just before Carnival. The setting is unreal, the people were in constant party mode, streets shut off at random so everyone can gather, bang some drums and get pissed. And then there’s the beaches. My idea of heaven.

If there was a tune that reminds me of Rio it would probably be Mark Anthony – Vivir Mi Vida, it seemed to be playing everywhere. Since I want to claw out my ear drums every time i hear it, i’ll give you this one instead:
Falke – pensive moments – one of my favourite tracks from last year.

4×4 from San Pedro to Uyuni Salf Flats

uyuni salt flats

(Un) comfortably numb. We’d heard some horror stories about this trip, drunk tour drivers, accidents on the salt flats, terrible accommodation and freezing cold temperatures. Only the last one turned out true of our tour, over 4,000 meters above sea level for most of the trip, temperatures tend to get pretty low (fuckin freezing in fact!) and the effects of altitude were difficult but nothing chewing on some coca leaves couldn’t sort out. The scenery is some of the most amazing I have ever seen. Bright red and green lakes, volcanoes, geysers, hot springs, floating in salt lakes, flamingos and of course the Uyuni salt flat itself. Pretty spectacular place!!

Death Road Mountain Biking – La Paz to Coroico

Death Road

Ever since I seen the Yungas road on Top Gear a few years ago I wanted to avoid it at all costs (that’s the road in the back ground), so I’m not sure why we thought it would be a good idea to go down it in a mountain bike. We were reliably informed (after we finished) by our guide that helicopter rescue was not an option at high altitude so if you go off the side and are out with reach of their ropes, your pretty much stuck. It turned out to be fine though and it was a great experience and far less deadly than the giant spider crawling up my leg in the shower after it..

I’d pick Juju and Jordash – Third Planet From Altair cos much like most of the Yungas Road, The drop is pretty spectacular (I know, I know, that was really bad).

HERE AT SUBBIE HQ WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK CESCO FOR SHARING THIS REMARKABLE ADVENTURE WITH US. WELCOME HOME! SEE YOU ALL ON FRIDAY FOR THE SENSU SUMMER RESIDENTS PARTY
