Ahead of this Friday’s Thunder Disco. We caught up with Swedish hardware analogue enthusiasts Genius of Time for some rapid Q&A surrounding their new Acid Live Set.
Firstly, congratulations on completing the new live set. What inspired you to focus on building an acid set after the success of your previous live set?
Thanks! We got asked by Corsica Studios a while back if we were interested in doing an acid/tribute to the 303 set. Neither of us had been making music with a 303 before but we were really excited about the challenge. It was more or less thought to be a one time thing, but we’re getting really excited about this setup now… so let’s see.
What would be your all time favourite acid tracks?
We´re actually gonna play a few covers of acid tracks we really like in our set, so we suggest you come and check out the show to find out!
How has it been living in different countries and putting together this set?
The first stage of preparation was deciding on what gear to use, how to sync everything up and get hold of a 303 clone, technical stuff like that.
So those things were fine to do away from each other. But we could not really work on the actual show separately so we´ve been meeting up in Berlin and Gothenburg a couple of times leading up to this weekend to practice. We want to have much room for improvisation and spontanity in this set, but that requires us to be well prepared and very confident with our set-up. We´ve played a bit less the last few months to get more time to spend in the studio, so there’s not been any problems really.
We are always interested to hear what other music artists are listening to at the moment. Any tracks or producers that stand out for you recently?
Fjäder and Kalawila are two new artists from Sweden that you should check out if you haven´t already.
Picture this… we are travelling through the ethereal Swedish landscape on the Arctic Circle Express. What 4 tracks would you play for our journey?
Klabbes Bank – Jämtland
Decay Product No.6
Arvo Pärt – Fratres, For Strings And Percussion

Jesper Dahläck – Lonesome Dub
How do you feel about your world debut of the acid set being in the Sub Club?
We’ve heard a lot of good things about Sub Club and it’s sound system. We’re ready to try it out :)
