Vicious Creatures top 10 of 2013 // Clockwork Q & A

Their end of year soiree approaches with passionate allure. This culmination of 2013’s merriment has inspired Vicious Creature to curate a scintillating list of musical beezers.
Here is what they had to say about their top tunes of 2013…

No. 10 – The Mole – Lockdown Party (DJ Sprinkles Crossfaderama)

A song made by an underground Canadian and then remixed by the fabulous Dj Sprinkles. Chest thumping brazen bass blasts through this rip snarler. We love it.

No. 09 – Konstantin Sibold – Madeleine

A slice of pure class on one of our favourite labels, Innervisions. Sibold, a Stuttgart-based DJ and producer stirs strange dance floor emotion with this floaty rumbler.

No. 08 – Jimpster – Porchlight and Rocking Chairs (Kink Remix)

A rangey dance floor whopper that builds to a bleep filled extended crescendo.KiNK’s tinkering takes this already powerful contender up to heavy weight status.

No. 07 Daniel Avery – Drone Logic

No other track this year has such a suitable title. The pure ‘drone’ of this beast resonates around the deep intestine with ferocious diligence. The title track from Mr Avery’s stunning album perked our interest from the very first listen.

Attendance at his upcoming Sub Club gig with The i AM is a must.

No. 06 Murat Tepeli – Forever (Prosumer’s Hold Me Touch Me Remix)

Invigorating roller coaster of sound. A rangey remix by Edinburgh living Lárus look-a-like Prosumer.

No. 05 Moderat – Bad Kingdom

MODESELEKTOR and Apparat join forces to become Moderat. The partnership doesn’t disappoint. To hear is to love. Play this monster loud and swoon with electronic lust.

No. 04 Ten Walls – Gotham

The 2nd entry in our top 10 from label of the moment Innervisions. A unique sound that everyone’s grooved to throughout 2013. If you’ve not heard this for a while give it a play…….it still sounds amazing.

No. 03 Rachel Row – Follow The Step (Kink Beat Mix)

Huge summer anthem from Defected Records. This remix unites two talented Bulgarians, Rachel Row & KINK, and results in a foundation shaking journey of groove.

No. 02 Ninetoes – Finder

Percussion heavy surprise that brings a smile to everyone on the dance floor. The question arises, who is this Ninetoes Guy?

Well, Ninetoes is actually not some chicklet that fell into our lap, but a genuinely gifted producer and Dj that has been playing spots around the globe and mastering his craft for more than fifteen years. Hopefully he’ll be at The Sub Club one day soon.

No. 01 – Kolsch – Goldfisch

Vicious Creatures favourite Kolsch initially came on to our radar around 3-4 years ago with the now established club banger, Loreley. Since then he has endeared himself to us even more with several other amazing tracks and an amazing live set for Sensu back in 2012.

2013 saw the release of his album 1977 on Kompakt records and our favourite of the new tracks is the stunning Goldfisch. Played by techno and house DJs throughout the world, this floaty wonder gave us lashings of joy throughout the past 12 months.

Their present to us arrives tomorrow. The joyous act of coming together with the ones you treasure most.

Your stocking filler goes by the name of Clockwork,  He’ll be journeying to the Sub Club from Life and Death Records HQ to deliver some musical treats that will warm even the coldest of ears. Clockwork’s Happy Helpers on the night will be Cesco Ferri from Sensu and VC Residents Forbes & Lárus.

Ahead of the party the VC crew caught this young Italian DJ/Producer to talk all things Clockwork….

The last 12 months have been huge for you and Life and Death records………what would you say is the reason for the meteoric rise of the label?

I think we have a good situation going on. Everything came together really nicely from day one and the team built up the same way the music came together: Naturally.
We’re all friends both inside and outside the studio and that helps keep the fun in what we do, besides inspiring each other constantly when working on new music. These in my opinion are all characteristics that help bring originality to the Life and Death project.

life and death

This is your Glasgow and Sub Club Debut…………what have you heard about our city and in particular the club?

To be honest I am not too familiar with Glasgow itself, but I have heard some exciting and strictly positive feedback by other Artists and Sub Club purveyors. I’m extremely excited and thankful to get to play there.

Previous Clockwork sets were predominantly built around house music we have however noticed that your leaning more towards techno in recent months. Why?

I have always been a big fan of Techno and Breaks, simply because these two genres were how I discovered and got into electronic music in the first place. The thing is you can’t just release your debut track on a pop/house based label and play strictly techno. So I’ve slowly built my way out of that to pursue what I really enjoy about electronic music. Having said that, it’s important for me to keep a slight difference between my productions and my sets so I still tend to include quite a variety of house records in my sets.

Here is a snippet of those techno sounds from his set at Monasterio in Moscow last Friday…
