Midnight Bass presents Zar (Rosebay) & Note (North Quarter)
Good Friday, we are delighted to bring two of Manchester’s finest liquid producers, Zar and Note, to Glasgow for their debut. Two artists currently pushing the deeper, melodic end of liquid drum & bass, this one really speaks for itself with both backed by a steady run of releases on standout labels, and regular appearances across the UK and Europe.
Manchester’s Note should need little in the way of introduction. Since emerging in 2021, he’s carved out his own lane, amassing millions of streams with a sound that blends drum & bass with jazz, hip-hop, and R&B into something fluid and unmistakably his own. Releases on Goldfat Records and Vandal laid the groundwork before linking with The North Quarter, where his debut EP Impressions of A Still Life – inspired by post-impressionist art – picked up support from BBC Radio 1, UKF, Rinse FM, Shogun Audio and Hospital Records, alongside a guest mix on BBC Radio 1’s Drum & Bass Show.
Along a similar vein, Manchester’s own Pierluigi Zardetto, better known as Zar, has been making serious moves with his deep, soulful take on drum & bass. Drawing on jazz, soul, and hip-hop influences, his productions lean emotive and forward-thinking without losing that core weight. Supported by names such as Fabio, Bryan Gee, LTJ Bukem, LSB, and Halogenix, he’s built a strong catalogue with releases on Gemini Gemini, Footnotes, Rosebay and V Recordings. His debut album on DRS’s Space Cadet imprint was named one of the best releases of 2024 by UKF – a clear marker of the quality he’s putting out.
A name familiar to us and to Scottish crowds, Zar has already packed out The Bongo Club and Sneaky Pete’s for us last year, providing two standout sets that spoke for themselves. His Anima album remains one of our favourites in recent years, balancing depth with restraint. As a resident and label manager at Sun and Bass, he continues to shape the deeper end of the scene – well worth your time & not to be missed!
On support, we’re delighted to welcome Glasgow veteran club promoter Hex (Symbiosis) to play at Glasgow’s legendary basement for the very first time alongside resident Arthur making his return from London!
